Graduate Assistantships (1 violin, viola, and cello positions) of $8,500 each will be awarded.
Qualifications: Bachelor of Music degree or equivalent; evidence of exceptional performance ability; admission to the Cratis Williams Graduate School at Appalachian State University
- Application Process: For priority consideration of an assistantship in the Hayes String Quartet, you should have your Graduate School and School of Music applications complete (including your audition) by March 1, 2019. If positions are still available after that date completed applications and auditions will be accepted through June 30, 2019.
- Date of appointment: August 2019
- Opportunities: Graduate students could be offered principal positions in the Appalachian Symphony Orchestra and solo and chamber performances representing the School of Music throughout the state and region. Assisting of studio professor in applied teaching duties may be assigned. Graduate students are encouraged to apply for employment in the Community Music School and audition for one of the eight regional orchestras.
The Hayes School of Music at Appalachian State University comprises 495 music majors, over 40 full-time faculty, over 20 part-time faculty, and over 25 graduate assistants. The Hayes School of Music offers the Master of Music degree in performance (including concentrations in instrumental and vocal performance, instrumental conducting, collaborative piano, and composition) and Master of Music Therapy. The Hayes School of Music is fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music.
