Dr. Melody Schwantes completed her Master of Music Therapy degree at Appalachian State University in 2007 and subsequently a PhD at Aalborg University, Denmark. Her research in effects of music therapy on mental health of Mexican migrant farmworkers earned recognition for innovative practice by the East Coast Migrant Stream Forum in 2009. She has published in music therapy journals including Journal of Music Therapy, The Arts in Psychotherapy, Music Therapy Perspectives, and The Australian Journal of Music Therapy. She currently lives in Boone, NC where she is a full time member of the music therapy faculty at Appalachian State.
