Phil was born in Birmingham, AL and shortly after moved to Oneonta, AL with his family. Phil graduated from Oneonta High School and went on to Jacksonville State University to pursue his undergraduate degree in General Music with an emphasis in percussion. While at JSU, Phil performed with the internationally-renowned Marching Southerners, the JSU Chamber Winds, Wind Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, JSU Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combo. Additionally, Phil was involved in the university’s ambassador program, serving as a public face for both the David L. Walters Dept. of Music but also the University as a whole. After graduating Magna Cum Laude, Phil made the move to Boone, NC to pursue his Masters of Music in Percussion Performance at Appalachian State University. So far, Phil has become a member of the Appalachian Symphony Band, as well as the New Paradigm Percussion Quartet. In addition to his collegiate ensemble career, Phil has spent two summers marching with the Colts Drum and Bugle Corps. Following his drum corps career, Phil spent his 2017 summer interning with Pearl Corporation in Nashville, TN. Phil has enjoyed his time at App so far and is looking forward to "what the future holds."
